DR.
JOHN N. PIKE
Optical Instrument
Earlier, Dr. Pike was employed for twenty-nine years as a Senior Scientist
at the Central Sciences Laboratories of the Union Carbide Corporation.
At UCC, Dr. Pike conducted optics experiments and analyses, and provided
consultations on a corporate-wide basis. He has authored over 350 internal
technical memoranda and published numerous technical papers on a variety
of subjects related to optics, materials characterization, and instrumentation.
Some of Dr. Pike's research projects were as follows:
- Simple laser scattering method for ranking Si wafer haze
- Low cost ellipsometer for organic films on water
- Thermal (radiative) conductivity in fibrous ceramics
- High sensitivity optical spot position sensor

- Surface "scratchiness" monitoring by forward
scattering
- Interference filter performance in precision photometry
